The RISEPTIS Report on Trust in the Information Society

The RISEPTIS (Research and Innovation on Security, Privacy and Trustworthiness in the Information Society) Advisory Board, framed within the Think-Trust project (funded by the EU's 7th Research Framework Programme, ICT Theme) has released a report entitled "Trust in the Information Society".

Interesting things about this report:

• It is rather short, just takes a while to scan it an get into the sections you need to read, or to fully cover it.
• The report features a section with a case study. It is a sequence of scenes in whith a couple and the grandmother of her make relatively intensive use of IT (online booking, mobile navigation, appointments to the dentist, etc.). While starts promising a future of comfort and simplicity and control over own privacy, it rather can get you into panic! Read section 3.2, pages from 20 to 25.
• And the authors, the RISEPTIS board, is impressive!

Of course, the expected & final list of guidelines, strategic actions and advices is nice enough and worth reading.

IX Premio de la SEPLN

IX EDICIÓN PREMIOS SEPLN DE INVESTIGACIÓN EN PROCESAMIENTO DEL LENGUAJE NATURAL

[Plazo de presentación: 28 de febrero de 2010]

La Sociedad Española para el Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural convoca la IX Edición de los Premios SEPLN a la Investigación en Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural, que se regirán por las siguientes bases:

1. La finalidad de este premio es la promoción y divulgación de la investigación en el campo del procesamiento del lenguaje natural.
2. El trabajo premiado será publicado por la SEPLN y se le entregará un ejemplar a cada socio. Tanto el importe íntegro de esta publicación, como el de su distribución entre los asociados y asociadas, correrá a cargo de la SEPLN. Dependiendo de la disponibilidad presupuestaria, la SEPLN distribuirá también ejemplares de la obra en Bibliotecas Universitarias sin cargo alguno. Igualmente, dependiendo de la disponibilidad presupuestaria y de la calidad y características de las obras presentadas, se podrá otorgar el premio ex aequo a más de una obra. Todos los derechos de copyright quedarán en la SEPLN. A la persona autora del trabajo premiado se le entregará un total de diez ejemplares de su obra. En caso de ser varias las personas autoras de la obra premiada, estos diez ejemplares se repartirán entre ellas de la manera más equitativa posible.
3. Para poder concursar, la persona o personas autoras del trabajo deben ser socias de la SEPLN en el momento de presentar el trabajo. Ninguna persona concursante podrá participar como autora en más de un trabajo.
4. Se podrán presentar a concurso trabajos monográficos de investigación originales e inéditos de cualquier extensión, escritos en una lengua del Estado español o en lengua inglesa. No se aceptarán trabajos de investigación que hayan sido publicados o enviados a publicación con anterioridad.
5. Para concursar deberá presentarse un ejemplar impreso firmado del trabajo y dos ejemplares impresos anónimos. Los trabajos que se presenten a concurso se enviarán por correo certificado antes del 28 de febrero de 2010 a la Junta Directiva de la SEPLN a la siguiente dirección:

The field of Semantic Computing addresses the derivation and matching of the semantics of computational content to that of naturally expressed user intentions in order to retrieve, manage, manipulate or even create content, where "content" may be anything including video, audio, text, processes, services, hardware, networks, etc.

The fourth IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing (ICSC2010) continues to foster the growth of a new research community. The conference builds on the success of the past ICSC conferences as an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present research that advances the state of the art and practice of Semantic Computing, as well as identifying emerging research topics and defining the future of the field.
